Many of our Match Official Developers (MOD) would be aware of, seen and/or used the coaching/review booklet that was developed initially by Paul Ryan and Rob D’Elboux from the Newcastle Rugby Union Referees Association. This booklet has now been slightly modified to ensure a focus on the 4Ss & I: Speed, Set Piece, Safety, Space and Interactions.
The booklet is particularly useful when coaching referees in gala days, carnivals and other multi game days when time between games might be limited for coaching feedback or when you are working with new referees who you need to be careful of ‘overloading’ with information.

In using these booklets, especially in carnival environments where referees might get 3-4 coaches across the day(s), the Referee Self Review and Coach Feedback page allows each coach to see a very good summary of where the referee is at and how they are going towards developing their skills/abilities.
In addition, coaches can be assigned to complete a summary report for a number of referees at the carnival/gala day on RefReview by taking a photo snapshot of each MODs feedback and use that to populate the RefReview report as a ‘carnival summary’. This alleviates the problem of a MOD trying to write and individual report for each game of the carnival, often when games are shorter in length (particularly for junior carnivals).
